Dozens Arrested After Protesters Occupy Columbia University Library. New York police arrested more than 70 pro-Palestinian protesters on Wednesday after they stormed a room in Columbia University’s Butler Library. The university said two campus security officers were injured during the incident. Columbia President Claire Shipman called the occupation “outrageous” and urged students to avoid the area. She condemned the disruption, saying it was unacceptable as students prepare for final exams. The NYPD confirmed it was acting at the university’s request to remove individuals trespassing in the library
New York City Mayor Eric Adams stressed that hate or violence would not be tolerated. It’s the first time since April 2024 that Columbia has called in police to handle a campus protest.
