Wreck of Superyacht That Killed UK Tech Tycoon Mike Lynch Recovered in Sicily. The British-flagged superyacht Bayesian, which sank off Sicily in 2024 killing Mike Lynch and six others, has been brought to shore. The wreck completed its final journey Sunday to the Sicilian port of Termini Imerese after a delicate, days-long recovery. Hoisted by a yellow crane barge, the 56-meter vessel was coated in algae and mud after months on the seabed near Porticello. Final recovery steps will conclude Monday as the yacht is placed in a steel cradle for onshore inspection. Investigators will examine the wreck to determine why the yacht capsized during a storm last August. Mike Lynch, his daughter, and five others died during a celebratory cruise following his U.S. acquittal; 15 people survived. Italian authorities are carrying out a full criminal investigation into the fatal accident. Recovery crews spent three days stabilizing the yacht underwater with steel straps and slings before it could be lifted. The 72-meter mast was cut and left on the seabed to allow the hull to be raised upright. A UK report blamed “extreme wind,” with gusts over 70 knots, for violently capsizing the vessel within 15 seconds.
