Eddie Jordan, former Formula 1 team boss and TV pundit, has died at the age of 76 after battling aggressive prostate cancer. He passed away peacefully in Cape Town on 20 March, surrounded by family. Jordan founded the iconic Jordan Grand Prix team, which entered F1 in 1991. Known for its rock and roll spirit, the team scored four wins and famously gave Michael Schumacher his debut. Jordan’s outfit briefly contended for the 1999 drivers’ title, with German driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen winning two races that year. The team’s final victory came in 2003 with Giancarlo Fisichella in Brazil. After financial struggles, Jordan sold the team in 2005. It has since evolved into today’s Aston Martin team, following stints as Midland, Force India, and Racing Point. Jordan later became a popular F1 pundit, first with BBC Sport and then Channel 4, admired for his colourful personality and knack for breaking big news stories. Known for his flamboyant lifestyle, Jordan was also a patron of London Irish Rugby Football Club and a drummer in the band Eddie & The Robbers. His family remembered him as charismatic, energetic, and full of Irish charm. "We all have a huge hole missing without his presence," their statement said. Jordan played a pivotal role in the careers of Schumacher, Damon Hill, and others, with many drivers owing their breaks to him. In his final F1 contribution, Jordan brokered Adrian Newey’s high-profile move to Aston Martin in 2025, having acted as the designer’s manager. Tributes from across the motorsport world have poured in, celebrating Jordan’s legacy as a trailblazing independent team owner and beloved F1 figure.
