Former Attorney General Eric Holder, who led the vetting process for Harris's campaign, was seen at the vice president's residence, indicating intensive final evaluations. Harris seeks a running mate who can comfortably follow her lead as a Black and Indian woman, take on challenging tasks, and remain loyal without undermining her position now or in the future. The campaign is particularly interested in a candidate who can attract voters similar to those who supported Biden, including older white voters and suburban women, to strengthen the ticket's appeal. A middle-aged or older white male with experience and credentials is seen as a strategic choice to reassure moderate Republican voters who may be hesitant about voting for Harris. Following the VP pick announcement, Harris and her running mate will embark on a five-day, seven-state tour, although an event in Savannah, Georgia, has been postponed due to Tropical Storm Debby.
