Tesla Scraps Cybertruck Range Extender, Frustrating Owners. Tesla has cancelled plans to offer a range-extending battery pack for its Cybertruck, leaving early buyers disappointed once again. Originally promised to deliver over 500 miles per charge, the production model fell far short prompting Tesla to introduce a $16,000 add-on pack to boost range to 470 miles. After delaying the upgrade last year and cutting its potential range, Tesla has now dropped the option entirely. In an email to customers, the company said it will refund $2,000 deposits for the pack, which would have occupied a third of the truck’s bed. The move is another blow to the struggling Cybertruck, whose sales have reportedly lagged far behind Tesla’s early projections.
