Nilu27, a newly established hypercar brand founded by renowned sports car designer Sasha Selipanov, has revealed its first car, the 1,000+ horsepower NILU hypercar.
The NILU hypercar is a bold departure from current industry trends, deliberately eschewing electrification and digitalisation to take customers back to what the company describes as a "raw, unfiltered, uncensored driving experience."
Inspired by a wide range of sources, including 1960s Formula 1 and Le Mans racers, classic Italian design, American muscle cars, and even avant-garde metal music, the NILU's design is both eclectic and original.
Sasha Selipanov, reflecting on the creation of the NILU, stated, “My path in the industry has never been about following rules and sticking to norms. I was never afraid to follow my intuition or chase my dreams. Breaking conventions is simply a byproduct. The same is true for NILU – a hypercar that discards current trends and conventions in pursuit of an elevated automotive experience.”
The NILU, which will be produced in a limited run of just 15 units, features a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque chassis with lightweight aluminum-alloy tubular subframes. This choice, as opposed to the more common composite subframes, was made to enhance access to drivetrain components and improve heat extraction while celebrating the car's mechanical aesthetic.
Inside the cabin, the NILU offers a pure, analog driving experience. The only screen present is for the rearview camera, addressing the typical lack of rearward visibility in mid-engined sports cars. The car's manual controls, including an open-gate, seven-speed transmission, are designed to engage the driver fully, with a focus on precision and feedback.
Under the hood, the NILU is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine, developed in partnership with Hartley Engines in New Zealand. The engine delivers over 1,000 horsepower, making the NILU one of the most powerful naturally aspirated hypercars in the world.
Nelson Hartley, founder and CEO of Hartley Engines, said, “With Sasha’s wishlist for NILU, we finally found the perfect project to dedicate our time and were able to adapt our development into his Hot V configuration, designing the engine around his chassis layout.”
The car's dynamics are supported by a double wishbone, pushrod suspension, and carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo, ensuring precise handling and braking performance. The NILU rides on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, mounted on centerlock wheels designed in-house by Nilu27.
Looking ahead, Nilu27 plans to produce a street-legal version of the NILU, limited to 54 units, with four unique, one-off designs.
Co-Founder and COO Inna Selipanov noted the strong response to the brand’s teasers, saying, “While the world is moving towards electrification, and for very good reason, we firmly believe the timelessness of these cars will not only keep them relevant but they will continue to find a place in the collections of passionate car lovers.”
The NILU hypercar will make its public debut on August 15 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California, following a private unveiling in Los Angeles on August 8. The car will also feature in the mobile racing game CSR Racing 2, allowing players to experience its performance virtually starting this November.
