Germany Seeks To Dismiss Gaza Genocide Case At UN's Top Court. Germany will ask the International Court of Justice to dismiss a case brought by Nicaragua accusing Berlin of "facilitating genocide" in Gaza. Four days of hearings begin in The Hague on Monday, with Germany challenging the court's jurisdiction and the admissibility of Nicaragua's claims. Nicaragua launched the case in 2024, accusing Germany of supporting Israel's military campaign by supplying weapons and other assistance. It previously asked the ICJ to order Germany to halt aid to Israel, particularly military equipment, but the court rejected the emergency request in April 2024. Germany strongly denies violating the 1948 UN Genocide Convention and previously described Nicaragua's allegations as "grossly biased.” Nicaragua has accused Berlin of providing humanitarian aid to Gaza while simultaneously supplying weapons to Israel. Germany argues its arms exports to Israel undergo detailed scrutiny and says Israel's security remains central to its foreign policy because of Germany's Nazi past. If Germany's objections fail, the case will proceed to a more detailed examination of Nicaragua's allegations on their merits.
