Djokovic Distances Himself From Parts of Players’ Lawsuit Against Tennis Tours. Novak Djokovic has said he disagrees with certain elements of a lawsuit filed by the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA), which he co-founded in 2020. The PTPA took legal action against tennis’ governing bodies, challenging the tour schedule, ranking systems, and control over image rights. The lawsuit criticises the ATP and WTA’s prize money formula, an 11-month calendar it calls “unsustainable”, and claims of invasive searches of players’ personal devices. The PTPA alleges collusion between the tours and tournaments, arguing this restricts competition and artificially limits prize money. Djokovic is not one of the 12 named players listed as plaintiffs and explained that he chose not to sign the letter to allow other players to take the lead. Speaking at the Miami Open, Djokovic said there are parts of the lawsuit he supports and others he disagrees with, citing the legal tone as “quite strong”. He added that he trusts the legal team’s approach, stating the case is now a “lawyers to lawyers” situation. Djokovic emphasized he does not seek division in the sport but wants stronger global representation for players on key issues beyond just prize money. The ATP and WTA defended their policies, highlighting the security and financial rewards already in place for players. Meanwhile, world number three Carlos Alcaraz said he does not support the lawsuit, noting he was quoted without prior knowledge.
