Headline: UNCAPTIONED: YouTube's New Measures to Protect Teens

Caption:

YouTube will stop recommending videos to teenagers that idealise specific fitness levels, body weights or physical features. The platform aims to prevent repeated viewing which can affect a young viewer’s wellbeing. "Repeated consumption of idealised standards can lead teens to form negative beliefs about themselves." Dr Garth Graham. YouTube's new approach includes avoiding 'rabbit holes' of similar content for 13- to 17-year-olds. Experts say single videos might be harmless, but repeated exposure to certain topics can be problematic. Content idealising specific physical features, body weights, or encouraging social aggression will see reduced recommendations. "This will be particularly beneficial for young people with vulnerabilities and mental health problems." Prof. Sonia Livingstone. The safety framework has already been introduced in the US and is now available globally, including the UK. In the UK, the Online Safety Act mandates tech companies to protect children from harmful content and algorithm risks.
