Afghan Embassy in London Set to Close After Taliban Dismisses Entire Staff. The Afghan embassy in London is set to close on September 27th, following the Taliban’s dismissal of all its staff. Afghanistan’s ambassador to the UK, Zalmai Rassoul, confirmed the closure via a post on X, attributing it to the official request of the UK government. This follows the Taliban's July announcement that it would no longer recognize embassies established by the previous regime, including the mission in Kensington. Many Afghan embassies, particularly in Europe, continued operating after the fall of Kabul in 2021. However, some, including the Washington DC embassy, have since been forced to close. The UK does not recognize the Taliban as Afghanistan’s legitimate government, and the British embassy has been relocated from Kabul to Qatar.
