Columbia University Bows to Federal Demands After Losing $400M in Funding. Columbia University has agreed to several conditions set by the Trump administration after losing $400 million in federal funding over claims it failed to address antisemitism on campus. Among the new rules: face masks used to conceal identity are banned, and protesters must show university ID when asked. These changes were part of a list of nine demands issued by the administration. Columbia has accepted most of them, but it’s unclear if the funding will be reinstated. Interim President Katrina Armstrong said the school is committed to safety and inclusivity. The university will also overhaul its admissions process and leadership in its Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies department.
