The quake’s epicenter was just 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. Tremors were felt across the region, reaching Thailand and southwest China. In Bangkok, hundreds of miles from the epicenter, a high-rise under construction collapsed, leaving at least 43 workers missing. Roads reportedly buckled in Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw. With the country still gripped by political turmoil following the 2021 military coup, communication remains limited making it difficult to assess the full scale of the damage.
