Piastri Wins Chinese GP as Hamilton, Leclerc and Gasly Disqualified in Post-Race Drama. Oscar Piastri won the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday, leading a dominant 1-2 finish for McLaren with teammate Lando Norris in second place. Starting from pole, Piastri controlled the race in Shanghai almost entirely, finishing nearly 10 seconds ahead of Norris to claim the third Grand Prix victory of his career. McLaren have now won both races of the 2025 season, with Norris having triumphed in Australia the previous week. Piastri praised the performance of his car and said the tyre behavior caught him by surprise but worked to his advantage. Norris faced brake issues and pressure from George Russell, who ultimately finished third, five seconds ahead of defending champion Max Verstappen. After the race, the FIA disqualified Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and Pierre Gasly. Hamilton’s car failed the plank thickness requirement, while Leclerc and Gasly had underweight cars. As a result, Hamilton’s sixth-place finish was voided, and he received no points, despite winning the sprint race on Saturday—his first victory with Ferrari. Ferrari stated there was no intent to gain an advantage and pledged to review the incident. Norris leads the drivers’ championship after two races, with Verstappen eight points behind, while Piastri moves to fourth, 10 points off the lead. Before the race, tributes were paid to former team owner Eddie Jordan, who passed away earlier in the week and famously gave Michael Schumacher his F1 debut.
