Waltz and others celebrated the strike in the chat with congratulatory messages and emojis. A National Security Council spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the chat messages appeared authentic. Vice President Vance expressed concerns in the chat, warning the strike might contradict Trump’s stance on Europe and risk oil price hikes. Despite his objections, Vance said he would support the decision and not voice his concerns publicly. The use of a non-secure platform for sensitive military communication has raised questions about a possible breach of the Espionage Act. Lawmakers from both parties, including Senator Mark Warner and Congressman Don Bacon, criticized the security lapse. Speaker Mike Johnson said the White House acknowledged the mistake and promised to prevent future incidents. The White House defended its team and called the strike “highly successful,” while speculation continues over potential resignations.
