EA's popular mobile game, The Simpsons: Tapped Out, is shutting down after 12 years. According to the Eurogamer, the end is near for The Simpsons: Tapped Out, EA's successful free-to-play city builder. The publisher has revealed that the mobile game will be removed from app stores this October, marking 12 years since its launch. The Simpsons: Tapped Out launched on iOS and Android in 2012, inviting players to rebuild Springfield after Homer Simpson's mishap leads to a nuclear meltdown. By 2014, the game had already generated over $130 million in revenue and has continued to receive updates since its release. After 12 years, development is officially coming to an end. EA described the decision as an "emotional one" in a statement shared on The Simpsons: Tapped Out's official Facebook page. Players can still access their virtual Springfields until the game goes offline permanently on January 24th next year.
