Prince fans will have the opportunity to celebrate like it’s 1999 in the iconic Minnesota house made famous by Purple Rain, as the film marks its 40th anniversary this year.

It's the first time the residence, which Prince purchased in 2015, has opened to the public.

“Not to brag, but we really outdid ourselves,” Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman, members of the Revolution who co-starred with Prince in the film and now serve as hosts of the house, wrote in the Airbnb listing. “The place is jammed with epic memorabilia that will give you a rare perspective into Prince’s creative process during his Purple Rain era.”

Melvoin and Coleman have curated a one-of-a-kind experience for Prince devotees, allowing them to immerse themselves in his cultural legacy with authentic memorabilia, unreleased tracks, and real-life elements from Prince’s own collection.

While Prince never lived in the home, it served as his character’s residence in the 1984 movie. The Kid, a musician and band leader with a tumultuous home life, lived in the house featured on screen. Some rooms have been restored to their film appearance, while others have been transformed into museum-style exhibits displaying Prince memorabilia.

In the basement, guests can sleep in a replica of The Kid’s bedroom, complete with lavender pillows and a 1980s-style cassette player loaded with Prince’s personal tape collection, including one of his demo recordings.

There’s also a lounge where guests can play guitar, drums, or piano, or even perform the iconic opening lines of When Doves Cry. QR codes scattered throughout the house connect visitors to commentary from the hosts.

“It really is meant to immerse you in The Kid’s world,” said Airbnb spokesperson Ali Killam.

Naturally, there’s plenty of Prince’s signature purple color throughout the house, including a large piece of wall art featuring purple bananas, a nod to Let’s Go Crazy.

Upstairs, guests will find a closet decorated with paisley wallpaper and leopard-spotted floors, showcasing Prince’s signature outfits behind glass. Other clothes and accessories are available for guests to try on, giving them a chance to live out their inner rock star fantasy.

“And then what guests will be able to do themselves is actually play around with a selection of really iconic 80s outfits and looks and styles that they can kind of engage their inner rock star themselves,” Killam said. There’s no confirmation on whether a raspberry beret is part of the wardrobe.

The bathroom, designed to replicate the one in the When Doves Cry music video, features a clawfoot tub and was created as a tribute by Melvoin and Coleman.

“We were lucky enough to be a part of the music scene in Minneapolis during such a pivotal era for rock music, playing with Prince in one of the most successful bands of our generation and starring alongside him in the Purple Rain film,” Melvoin and Coleman said in a statement. The pair, who were part of The Revolution in 1984, later went on to release their own album as Wendy & Lisa in 1987.

Fans don’t need to be wealthy to afford a stay in the house – it’s just $7 a night per person for up to four guests. The price is based on Prince’s favorite number, and there are 25 nightly stays available between October 26 and December 14.

Prince fans can submit a booking request online starting at 6am Pacific on October 2, until 11:5 pm Pacific on October 6. Airbnb, in collaboration with Prince’s estate and Paisley Park, will randomly select a pool of potential guests, with final invitations based on fans’ responses about why they want to stay there.
