Headline: CCTV shows moment masked burglar launched ‘brutal’ attack on police

CCTV captures the moment a masked thief broke into a shop and then launched a “brutal” attack on police as they tried to arrest him.
Dean Pemble burst out of the store in Ramsgate and smashed an officer over the head with a heavy object in a carrier bag, leaving him with severe bruising and in “horrendous” pain.
The 32-year-old had earlier thrown bricks through the glass door of the Severka Czech & Slovak supermarket in King Street before clambering inside.
But as police arrived, he then ran violently from the property at a male officer before assaulting his female colleague.
Pemble was eventually brought under control with Pava spray and arrested.
He was later charged with burglary, causing actual bodily harm and assault on an emergency worker. He admitted the offences when he appeared in the dock at Margate Magistrates’ Court on October 21.
The court heard Pemble, of Westgate Bay Avenue, Westgate, committed the offences during the early hours of Sunday, October 19.
Prosecutor, Terry Knox, showed magistrates the CCTV footage in which the thief, wearing a face covering, can be seen breaking into the shop before attacking both officers about a minute later.
Mr Knox said: “He had a blue carrier bag, and he rushed out and smashed the bag over his [the officer’s] head, and that’s the ABH.”
The prosecutor then showed the bench photos of the officer’s injuries, which included heavy bruising and grazing around his head.
Mr Knox said: “The second officer was trying to restrain him and he kicked out with his legs and kneed her in the rib area. She yelped, and he carried on.
“She had pain and cuts to her hands and knees.”
In a victim impact statement, PC Ollie Stirling said he understood sometimes he would have to deal with volatile situations, but being hit on the head with a heavy object put him in fear of what other weapons Pemble might have had on him.
PC Stirling described the pain as “horrendous” and that he also suffered bleeding fingers because of the broken glass from the door.
“Pemble was brutal,” the officer added.
The court heard the defendant had been on bail for two further offences when he raided the shop.
Roger Haw, defending, said Pemble was waiting to be sentenced for another non-domestic burglary on November 6.
He added: “He knows he’s at serious risk of going to prison.”
Magistrates decided they wanted a pre-sentencing report to be carried out on Pemble. His case may be sent to the crown court for sentence.
Pemble was remanded in custody.
