Nissan Explores Sharing Global Factories with Chinese Partner Dongfeng. Nissan is considering sharing its global production facilities with its Chinese state-owned partner, Dongfeng, as part of a major business shake-up. The Japanese automaker, which employs thousands in the UK, told the BBC it might integrate Dongfeng into its worldwide production network. This announcement comes after Nissan revealed plans to lay off 11,000 workers and close seven factories though the locations of these cuts have not been disclosed. Nissan’s CEO Ivan Espinosa assured there are no immediate plans to impact the Sunderland plant, where new cars are being launched. The move to strengthen ties with Dongfeng coincides with heightened scrutiny of the UK's trade relationship with China, especially following a recent UK-US tariff deal that raised concerns in Beijing. The Chinese embassy has called for clarification on the UK's stance warning it would respond if China's interests are compromised.
