Headline: UNCAPTIONED: New Mercury Images Reveal Stunning Details Of The Planet's Surface

Caption:

A spacecraft has captured incredibly detailed images of Mercury during a close flyby. BepiColombo, a joint ESA-JAXA mission, made its closest approach on January 8, 2025. Flying 295 km above Mercury, it photographed icy craters, volcanic plains, and the planet's largest impact crater. Mercury reflects two-thirds less light than Earth's Moon, making its surface appear remarkably dark. The flyby used gravity assist to steer BepiColombo closer to its 2026 orbital mission. These are the last images from M-CAMs before separation for a detailed planetary study. BepiColombo's mission launched in 2018 to explore Mercury's geology, magnetic field, and exosphere. Scientists aim to analyse this new data to understand Mercury's evolution further.
