US Lawmakers Criticize IOC Over Russia Decision. U.S. lawmakers have criticized the International Olympic Committee after it voted to provisionally lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee. The IOC said the move was intended to ensure equal access to competitions and did not reflect any change in its condemnation of Russia's war in Ukraine. Senator Jeanne Shaheen said the decision rewards Russian President Vladimir Putin despite the ongoing war. Representative Michael McCaul said allowing Russia back into Olympic competition sends the wrong message while attacks on Ukraine continue. Senator Rick Scott accused the IOC of abandoning its principled stance against Russia's actions. Representative Don Bacon said the Russian people should see that the world rejects Putin's actions. Russian teams have been suspended since the country's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022. The IOC has not yet decided whether Russia's flag and national anthem will be permitted at future Olympic events, including the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
