First Ever eVTOL Flights In Dubai Take Off. Joby Aviation has completed the first-ever piloted vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) wingborne flights in Dubai, marking a major milestone for the emerging air taxi industry. The flights, conducted using the same aircraft design intended for future passenger services, were a key demonstration of Joby's readiness for commercial operations. The California-based firm plans to begin carrying passengers in 2026. Joby's demonstration in Dubai not only showcased the capabilities of its aircraft but also tested its broader operational ecosystem, including maintenance and logistics. The aircraft is specifically designed to withstand extreme conditions, including the harsh desert climate of Dubai. Its climate-controlled cabins and efficient battery and propulsion systems have already undergone nearly two years of testing at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
