There’s a new king of Woburn Safari Park - Lonka, a magnificent 10-year-old male African lion who arrived on Wednesday 2 July 2025.


Transferred from Serengeti Park in Germany, Lonka’s arrival marks a major milestone for the park, being one of the first international big cat moves since the global pandemic.

With his striking dark mane and powerful presence, Lonka has already made a huge impression on keepers and visitors alike.


According to his keepers he’s settling into his new home with confidence, scent-marking his territory and letting out deep, thunderous roars that echo across the Bedfordshire parkland.


Lonka’s arrival represents a vital step in conservation efforts as he will eventually be introduced to Zuri the lioness, with the aim of supporting the future of this Vulnerable species.
