Tom Daley confirms retirement from diving. The British Olympic gold medallist has confirmed that the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris marked the last time he would be competing in the iconic sports event. Tom, 30, told British Vogue in a new interview: ”It feels very, very surreal. I felt so incredibly nervous going into this, knowing it was my last Olympics. There was a lot of pressure and expectation.” "I was eager for it to be done... but when I walked out, and saw my husband (Dustin Lance Black) and kids (Robbie and Phoenix) and my friends and family in the audience. I was like, You know what? This is exactly why I did this. I'm here, and no matter what happens in the competition itself, I'm going to be happy.” Tom explained that while he was "emotional" about his final competition, he also felt it was the "right time" to walk away. ”It was emotional at the end, up there on the platform, knowing it was going to be my last competitive dive. But I have to make the decision at some point, and it feels like the right time. It's the right time to call it a day.” The athlete first competed in the Olympics in Beijing in 2008 before going on to win a bronze medal in London in 2012 and another in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. He went on to win gold and bronze in Tokyo in 2021 and a silver medal in Paris this year. ”To currently be Britain's most decorated diver... I feel so incredibly proud. When I look back, I'm really, genuinely satisfied with what I've done.” Away from his career, Tom and his Oscar-winning screenwriter husband Dustin, 50, have two children; Robbie, six, and 16-month-old Phoenix, who they welcomed via surrogate.
