Headline: UNCAPTIONED: ESA Monitors Asteroid with 1 in 83 Chance of Earth Impact

Caption:

ESA Monitors Asteroid with 1 in 83 Chance of Earth Impact. The European Space Agency (ESA) is closely monitoring asteroid 2024 YR4 a football-pitch-sized space rock with a one in 83 chance of hitting Earth in December 2032. Measuring 100m by 40m, the asteroid is currently 27 million miles away. It will most likely pass within a few thousand miles of Earth’s orbit. Most experts predict a near miss, but if the impact risk is confirmed, ESA plans to recommend a "spacecraft-based response" to the United Nations. Despite the uncertainty, Dr. Simeon Barber from the Open University advises against panic explaining that early detection systems often overestimate collision risks.
