Headline: Houston To Install World's Largest Sundial

Caption: **RAW VIDEO** The City of Houston is to build the world’s largest sundial. Arco del Tiempo (Arch of Time) by artist and architect Riccardo Mariano works both as a time measuring device, a magical light display, and a community solar installation that generates 400,000 kWh each year. The regenerative and permanent solar photovoltaic sculptural installation will be installed in the city’s East End, Houston’s Second Ward Complete Community, in 2024. Mariano’s work takes the form of a 100-foot-tall triumphal arch and serves as a gateway to Houston’s East End / Segundo Barrio neighborhood. Incorporating solar modules into the south-facing exterior of the sculpture, Arco del Tiempo (Arch of Time) will generate approximately 400,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, offsetting the electricity demand of the surrounding neighborhood. Tracing the path of the sun across the sky, Arco del Tiempo is both a monumental sculpture and a place for locals and visitors to meet, linger, experience, and perform. The arch is also an interactive time-measuring device that works by beaming sunlight onto the ground plane of Guadalupe Plaza Park. Each beam of light is singularly composed throughout the seasons and the hours of the day by the geometry of the artwork, which reflects the unique sun path of Houston.
