Starmer Vows Britain Will Never Surrender Its Flag. Sir Keir Starmer has declared Britain will never give up its flag to those who use it as a symbol of violence, fear and division. The prime minister said the Union Jack represents the country’s diversity and must never be a tool of intimidation. His comments follow mass demonstrations in London, where more than 150,000 people joined a far-right march led by Tommy Robinson, alongside a 5,000-strong counter protest organised by Stand Up To Racism. Business Secretary Peter Kyle said the marches reflected freedoms of speech and association. But Starmer warned peaceful protest cannot extend to assaults on police or making people feel unsafe because of their race or background. Police confirmed 26 officers were injured, four seriously, and 24 arrests were made. For much of Saturday, central London was filled with union jacks, St George’s crosses, and a scattering of Scottish Saltires and Welsh flags.
