A castle in the heart of the Bordeaux countryside has been restored with a sustainable twist.

Dating back to 1456, the Château de Belet sits on a private 110-acre estate in rural France.

The Renaissance castle had fallen into disrepair before property development management company, Veritasis, restored it to its former heritage.

The redevelopment was focused on environmental responsibility, including implementing climate-friendly heating and cooling technologies.

Original materials were used where possible, including materials from the on-site quarry and timber sources from the estate.

The team also took inspiration from historical documents and drawings to try and recreate elements that had been lost a long time ago.

Veritatis took a page from their prior sustainability consulting business to large corporations and applied it to the castle's redevelopment.

A team of 13 craftsmen undertook the restoration works including fixing broken parts of the building and reviving the spirit of the château.

The castle is now a 5-star designed rental country estate.

Guests attending will be greeted by opulence and the subtle hum of sustainable technology.

Each room tells a story, decorated with carefully selected antique furniture and fixtures that complement the castle's storied past.

Behind the scenes, energy-efficient systems maintain the perfect climate, with complete WIFI connectivity throughout.

The château is surrounded by vineyards producing some of the world's finest wines, forests teeming with truffles and mushrooms and the historical culture of the Dordogne.

On the estate, guests can experience wine tastings and foraging expeditions in truffle-laden forests.

The château was even the birthplace of Bishop of Cahors and founder of the Chancelade abbey, before falling into disrepair.

The castle offers six ensuite bedrooms, including one, two-bedroom suite as well as a kid's dormitory which can host 12 children.

At an altitude of 300m on the hills of Nice, Château de Bellet is located at the highest point of the AOP Bellet.

The château itself is also located near the second-largest city in France; Nice.

The area is known for its history, architecture, Riviera and its proximity to Monaco which is 13km away.
