Amazon Prime Video Ads Are Here. As of Jan. 29, Amazon Prime subscribers are being forced to pay another $3 per month if they'd like to watch content without ads, Gizmodo reports. The new monthly fee is in addition to the $139 a year Prime subscribers already pay. According to Gizmodo, ads on Prime Video signify "the end of an era in streaming". The implementation of the new structure means that the five biggest U.S. streaming services each have ads now. The last few years have seen Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+ and Max introduce ads as well. Gizmodo reports that streamers can really only keep growing by raising subscription prices and introducing ads, so that's what they're doing. Apple TV+ is one of the last major services that doesn't have ads, Gizmodo reports. As streaming becomes more costly and filled with advertisements, studios are investing less in additional content. In 2023, Netflix produced 130 fewer shows compared to 2022, according to 'Bloomberg'. Industry analysts report that competitors are taking a similar approach.
