EU Fines Temu €200 Million Over Dangerous Products. The European Union has fined Chinese-owned online retailer Temu 200 million euros for allowing illegal and potentially dangerous products to be sold on its platform. EU regulators said Temu failed to properly identify and manage risks linked to unsafe items, including faulty chargers and hazardous baby toys. An investigation found some chargers purchased through the site failed basic electrical safety tests, while certain toys reportedly contained harmful chemicals or choking hazards. The European Commission says Temu must now submit a detailed action plan by late August explaining how it will improve product safety and comply with EU rules. Temu says it disagrees with the decision and called the fine disproportionate, arguing the findings relate to older systems from 2024. The penalty is one of the largest issued so far under the European Union’s Digital Services Act.
