Switch Reaches 139.36 Million Sales Globally. Nintendo released its Q3 results for fiscal year 2024 on Feb. 6. According to the explanatory material, Nintendo Switch has sold 139.36 million units worldwide, 'Forbes' reports. Those numbers have put the Switch ahead of the Wii and Game Boy. However, the console still hasn't sold more units than the Nintendo DS or PlayStation 2. Nintendo DS has shipped 154.02 million units, while the PS2 holds the all-time record with over 155 million units. While the Switch still has a ways to go to claim the top spot, it's now Japan's best-selling console ever, according to Game Rant. The console first debuted in March 2017. To date, Nintendo's shares have risen over 200% following the Switch's launch, CNBC reports. Rumors have surfaced that Nintendo may be gearing up to release a new console. "The original Switch is now almost 7 years old, sales are going down... So it’s absolutely high time for a new Nintendo system this year." consultancy Kantan Games, to CNBC. "I think the new device will come out in 2024, probably in the second half of the year.", Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based games consultancy Kantan Games, to CNBC.
