Russian Drone Hits Romanian Apartment Block Near Ukraine Border. A Russian drone entered Romanian airspace and crashed into an apartment building in Galati early Friday, according to Romania’s defence ministry. The drone struck the roof of a residential building, causing a fire and injuring two people. Romanian authorities said the drone crossed from Ukraine during a Russian attack on civilian and infrastructure targets. Two Romanian F-16 fighter jets were scrambled and authorised to engage aerial threats during the incident. President Nicușor Dan called an emergency meeting of the country’s Supreme Council of National Defence, describing it as the most serious spillover incident since the war began. Dan said Russia bore full responsibility and pledged “proportionate measures” in response. Nato General Secretary Mark Rutte condemned Russia’s actions as reckless and reaffirmed that NATO would defend every inch of allied territory. The president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said Russia’s war had crossed “yet another line” and confirmed the EU was preparing a 21st sanctions package against the country.
