Why Do Some People Get Bit by Mosquitoes More Than Others? Slate reports that female mosquitoes are responsible for biting and feeding on humans. They do so in order to be able to produce eggs. A 2004 study published by the National Institutes of Health and a 2019 study published by the 'American Journal of Entomology' found that one blood type attracts mosquitoes the most. Their preference is Type O. A study published by 'PLOS ONE' found that bacteria on our skin and bodily emissions can also attract the insects. In particular, carbon dioxide, ammonia and lactic acid appear to draw their attention the most. A study published in 'Nature Communications' found that vibrant colors also attract mosquitoes. In 2016, Grayson Brown, a mosquito scientist, told CBS News that beer may also be a factor. "Alcohol raises the body temperature of drinkers and makes them sweat more... C02 that fizzles out of a beer bottle when its top is popped could be an attraction factor, too." Grayson Brown, a mosquito scientist, to CBS News.
