Caption: Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio Teaming Up In New 'Karate Kid’. After starring in separate 'Karate Kid' films released decades apart, an upcoming sequel will see Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan team up on the big screen. NBC reports that the new movie from Sony Pictures will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle. The Rob Lieber-written film will be produced by Karen Rosenfelt. It has a current release date of December 13, 2024. Macchio will reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso, which he first played in the original 1984 'Karate Kid' film. Chan will reprise his role as Mr. Han, a Mr. Miyagi-like kungfu master, who trained Jaden Smith's character Dre Parker in the 2010 remake. Earlier this year, Macchio announced the sixth and final season of 'Cobra Kai' on Netflix. NBC reports that it remains unclear how, or if, the story of 'Cobra Kai' will be a part of the upcoming 'Karate Kid’. In a video posted on YouTube, Chan and Macchio announced a global casting search for the next karate kid. The pair said that young actors are invited to submit their audition tapes to KarateKidCasting.com. THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
