Maren filed for divorce from country singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd after five years of marriage in October and their split was finalised in January with the exes sharing custody of their four-year-old son Hayes. The singer has always been an outspoken defender of LGBTQ+ rights. She was honoured for her allyship by GLAAD last year, receiving the organisation's Excellence in Media Award for making a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ+ people. She said in her acceptance speech, "I'm not brave... making the right decision shouldn't take bravery or courage.” “It shouldn't take heroic effort to want basic human rights for everybody.
