Caption: Nick Cannon praises Mariah Carey for 'saving his life' during lupus battle. Nick Cannon has confessed ex-wife Mariah Carey saved his life when he was first diagnosed with lupus. The 42-year-old presenter was still married to Mariah when he got the diagnosis and has now praised the singer for being so supportive through the crisis. “She was my rock, man,” Nick said during a recent appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast. “She went hard. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for how hard she went with the doctors, with me (and) my stubbornness.” Nick even described Mariah as “perfect” when it came to her role as a caregiver to him. “She was the perfect helpmate, the perfect matriarch, the perfect mom, the perfect wife in those scenarios,” Despite being a global music star Nick added Mariah, 54, remained “loving enough to take on all of my stuff.” In 2012 Nick confirmed he had been diagnosed with lupus after he battled kidney failure and two blood clots in his lung. “It probably took a toll on us just because of the person I was in my head and the struggles that I was dealing with. But it definitely brought us closer together.” Nick and Mariah were married from 2008 to 2016 and share 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
