Caption: Best Buy to Stop Selling DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs. In-store and online sales of DVDs and Blu-ray discs will be phased out beginning next year, 'Variety' reports. Best Buy confirmed the change on Oct. 13. "To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago.", Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy, Best Buy spokesperson, via statement. DVDs and Blu-ray discs of movies and TV series will still be available to purchase during this year's holiday season, 'Variety' reports. Best Buy will continue to sell physical copies of video games at this time. The company's decision to stop selling DVDs and Blu-ray discs comes as Netflix stopped providing DVDs on Sept. 29 as well. That leaves Walmart, Amazon and Target as America's top retailers for the media formats. Redbox, which has about 29,000 DVD kiosks across the country, is also forging on.
