RIP Medical Debt is helping the city get rid of the debt. The nonprofit seeks to help low income people and those who are experiencing financial hardship. There is no application process. Those who are selected will be notified that their debt has been resolved. NYC will spend $18 million over the course of three years under the program, AP reports.
