Caption: This Day in History: One World Trade Center Officially Opens in NYC. November 3, 2014. Construction for the tower where the former Twin Towers stood began in 2006. Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a competition was held to find a lead architect for a new structure. Polish-American architect Daniel Libeskind won the competition. His vision of an asymmetrical tower wasn't realized, however. Leaseholder Larry Silverstein employed his preferred architect, David Childs. Childs' design of a more traditional tower was also eventually changed. Critics commented that the slow pace of construction allowed for a "sense of emblematic rebirth" to become "more acute and irresistible." Today, tenants of One World Trade Center include several major financial companies, as well as media and tech companies. THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
