Headline: UNCAPTIONED: How your diet can help alleviate menopause symptoms

Caption: How your diet can help alleviate menopause symptoms. Lizzie Hennig, Head of Nutrition at BaxterStorey, tells us more. Monitor alcohol and caffeine consumption. Alcohol and caffeine can worsen menopause symptoms such as hot flushes. ”Keeping a diary can help you understand how these trigger hot flushes, as well as help you to reduce them.” Hydration is key. Nearly 75% of women get hot flashes during the menopause. “With an increase in moisture loss by the body, keeping hydrated with water is key.” Increase phytoestrogen intake. Phytoestrogens are found in foods like chickpeas, peanuts, grains, kale, broccoli, berries, and apples. “These compounds have oestrogen-like effects and can help manage menopause symptoms.” Combat carb cravings. Prioritise a diet rich in whole foods with fibre and avoid ultra-processed foods. ”Always opt for wholegrain as they are higher in fibre and lower in sugar, which helps to stabilise blood sugar levels and prevent sugar spikes that lead to cravings.” Don't forget the omega 3s. The likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease increases during the menopause so it's best to incorporate more omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. ”Foods such as salmon, avocado, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, seeds and beans will help look after your heart health, as well as help your eyes and brain continue to function properly.” THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
