Headline: UNCAPTIONED: Nick Cave and Piers Morgan pay tribute to Shane MacGowan

Caption: Nick Cave and Piers Morgan pay tribute to Shane MacGowan. The singer-songwriter passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning at the age of 65, surrounded by his wife, Victoria May Clarke, and his family. Cave, 66, paid tribute by sharing that MacGowan was "a true friend and the greatest songwriter of his generation", adding that Thursday marked "a very sad day”. Morgan, 58, urged the public to get The Pogues' song Fairytale of New York to number one this Christmas. ”RIP Shane MacGowan, 65. Irish punk legend, genius Pogues singer/songwriter, and hell-raiser extraordinaire. His favourite joke was: 'I was given six weeks to live, about 25 years ago!’”. Irish President Michael D. Higgins also remembered the late musician, describing his "great sadness" at hearing of MacGowan's death. ”Shane will be remembered as one of music's greatest lyricists.” "So many of his songs would be perfectly crafted poems, if that would not have deprived us of the opportunity to hear him sing them.” In December 2022, MacGowan was hospitalised with viral encephalitis, and as a result, he spent several months of 2023 in intensive care. He was discharged from St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin last Wednesday and died just over a week later. THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
