Chandrika Shrestha, 64, is brought by helicopter to an Army hospital in Kathmandu for treatment after being rescued alive from the house of Ananda Shrestha in Betravati Bazaar, Nuwakot district, Nepal, on September 5, 2026, 10 days after devastating flash floods struck Rasuwa and surrounding areas near the Nepal-China border on August 26. Shrestha had remained trapped inside the house and was rescued alive by rescue teams before being airlifted to Kathmandu. As of September 5, 1,344 people had died and 4,898 remained missing following the floods and landslides, while more than 13,000 people had been rescued. The disaster caused widespread destruction across Rasuwa and Nuwakot, damaging homes, roads, bridges and hydropower infrastructure, while security forces and rescue teams continue search-and-rescue operations in the affected areas
