Shrestha, who died earlier this month at the age of 93, was widely known for his contributions to Nepal Bhasa and Nepali literature as a poet, lyricist and playwright. Gai Jatra, also known as Sa Paru, is a Newar festival in which families commemorate relatives who died during the past year through processions featuring cows or people dressed as cows. The festival combines remembrance and mourning with music, performances, humor and satire.
