Headline: Nepal highways grind to a halt after devastating floods

Caption:

Trucks and other vehicles remain stranded along the Kalanki–Thankot–Nagdhunga route in Kathmandu, Nepal, on August 27, 2026, after devastating flash floods and landslides forced the closure of major highways. The stranded vehicles have caused severe congestion, further disrupting travel. Flooding swept through Rasuwa and other parts of central Nepal before surging downstream along the Trishuli and Narayani river systems, damaging roads, bridges, settlements and other infrastructure. The Nagdhunga–Muglin route, a key link between Kathmandu and the rest of the country, remains closed, disrupting the movement of people and goods. At least 270 people have been killed and 826 remain unaccounted for, according to the latest figures from authorities, as search, rescue and relief operations continue.
