People stand at the top of the Prymorski Stairs as sandbags are being removed from the Duke of Richelieu monument on Prymorskyi Boulevard. More than 1,000 protective sandbags weighing about 185 tonnes were removed from the monument, which had been completely concealed beneath them for the past four years since March 2022. After their removal, experts discovered traces of corrosion and mechanical damage on the bronze parts of the monument, erected in 1828, necessitating urgent professional restoration.
