State Emergency Service of Ukraine rescuers extinguish smouldering hotspots in retail stalls after the open flames were put out at the book market near a metro station following an overnight Russian ballistic missile attack, Kyiv, Ukraine, on August 16, 2026. The attack sparked a large-scale fire that destroyed several rows of retail pavilions and vendors’ property. The strike was part of Russia’s systematic campaign to destroy Ukraine’s book infrastructure.
