The Perseid meteor shower peaks over the Kuialnyk Estuary, Odesa region, Ukraine, on August 12, 2026. The meteor shower occurs when Earth passes through a vast trail of dust and debris left behind by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle as it approaches the Sun. The shower takes its name from the fact that, to observers on Earth, the meteors appear to radiate from a single point (the radiant) located in the constellation Perseus
