Caption:

The German sail training ship Großherzogin Elisabeth leaves the River Tyne this afternoon, bound for Helgoland, Germany.

Built in the Netherlands in 1909 as the cargo schooner San Antonio, the historic three-masted gaff schooner is now operated from Elsfleth, Germany, by the Schulschiffverein "Großherzogin Elisabeth" association for sail training, nautical education and public voyages.

The 63.7-metre vessel carries approximately 800 square metres of sail and is one of Germany's best-known traditional sailing ships.
