Torsten Marczak, volunteer state coordinator for ospreys and peregrine falcons in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is fitting an osprey (Pandion haliaetus) about five weeks old with a colored identification band and a numbered band from the Hiddensee Bird Observatory. With support from the energy provider WEMAG, bird experts are currently banding the young birds that hatched a few weeks ago. There are more than 275 osprey breeding pairs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which raise about 400 young birds each year.
