Ashton-in-Makerfield during the by-election campaign. The parliamentary constituency of Makerfield is the Greater Manchester seat of a By-election taking place 18 June 2026. Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham is standing in the By-election to try and become a Member of Parliament. If he succeeds he has vowed to challenge current Prime Minister Keir Starmer for the Labour party leadership, potentially making him Prime Minister. Many parties are contesting the election, but The Reform Party is the only realistic challenger for victory.
