Caption:

Kathrin Balfanz (red cap), scientific excavation manager, explains the finds at the excavation site prior to the construction of the Wellaune bypass (district of North Saxony). Archaeologists have found extensive structures from a Bronze Age settlement dating back more than 3,000 years. Around 1,900 objects have been found so far during the excavations, which have been ongoing since October last year. The excavation team has discovered several "unprecedentedly preserved" building ground plans and structures over an area of around one hectare, which, according to the findings, were so-called "wall trench houses" in "post and block construction". According to the excavation manager, such a well-preserved settlement is unique in Saxony.
